Jorge Camarotti - Director
Born into a working-class family in São Paulo, Brazil, Jorge Camarotti is an award-winning Afro-Brazilian filmmaker based in Montreal since 2003. Since his early days in cinema, Jorge has directed over a dozen short films, both documentary and fiction, staying true to his mission of giving a voice to the most oppressed individuals in our society. His most recent project, “Ousmane”, had its world premiere at TIFF 2021, and has been screened at over 60 festivals worldwide to date. Variety and Hollywood Reporter magazines included “Ousmane” in their list of the ten best films of 2022. The film was shortlisted for the Oscars® 2023 and won 15 awards, including two at Oscar® qualifying festivals, a nomination for Best Short Drama at the Canadian Screen Awards 2022 and a Vimeo Staff Pick Best of the Year. For the past three years, Jorge has acted as a script mentor and art director for under-represented groups as part of NETFLIX's Being Black in Canada program. With the support of Telefilm Canada, Jorge is now working on his first feature film, “Edith”, which has been selected for development at TIFF Labs in 2021.
